This is the flag that was raised as a sign of no surrender.  The flag represents the Union staying in Fort Sumter and not moving anywhere else.  They also fired cannons to try and scare the South away.  It has seen the start of the most bloody war in American history. Major Anderson's raising of the Fort Sumter flag was like saying I am ready to fight a long bloody war with tens of thousands of people dying.   The flag is on display in Washington D.C.  There are 33 stars on the flag representing the 33 states of the Union (but not the confederacy) and 13 stars representing the 13 colonies. Flags are  powerful "weapons" raising one in a countries name means more than you would think.Hayden and Christian.
