The Battle of Gettysburg

The Battle of Gettysburg was a three day battle within the Civil War. The battle was the fighting of the Union (North) and the Confederacy (South).

This is a picture of Robert E. Lee, he was one of the major Confederacy generals. He tried his best in Gettysburg and on day two of the battle his side suffered many losses. In total the Confederacy lost 4,708 men.

This picture below shows George G. Mead, the Union's general. His great efforts were worth it as they won the battle but his losses were not insignificant. They lost 3,155 men but it was still better then the Confederacy.

The Civil War is the bloodiest War in history a total of 7,863 people killed, just in the battle of Gettysburg though. This is to give you and idea of what the battle field looked like.

Gettysburg Address

Abraham Lincon gave a speech called the Gettysburg Adderss. It is one of the most famous and most quoted speeches in history. It was his idea that we should make a memorial and cemetery for the brave men who fought for our country. It was because of him we now have the Gettysburg National Cemetery. This was the first National Cemetery, it is on the battle field in Gettysburg Pennsylvania.
