Technology

How technology was in the 1850's...
-When technology was first starting there were only a few inventors. Over the years, the technology was changing. The invento
rs were becoming more detailed and had fewer problems. Even though only a few people were actually able to use the inventions. They still affected a wide range of people.
  • Machine Gun-Later in the 1800's
The machine gun is a fully automatic mounted or portable firearm. Usually designed to fire rifle cartridges in quick succession from and ammunition belt. The first machine guns were manually operated. For example, by turning hand crank. In later years the first gas operated machine was the colt Browning M1895.

  • Jacquard Loom 1801
The Jacquard Loom is a mechanical loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard. It is based on earlier inventions by french men Basile Bouchon in 1793. The Jacquard Loom was the first machine to use punch cards to control a sequence of operations.

  • Cottin Gin 1793
A Cotton Gin (short for cotton engine) is a machine that quickly and simply seperates the cotton fibers from the seed pods and sometimes sticky seeds. This job was previously done by slave workers. These seeds were either used again to grow more cotton or if damaged are disposed. The modern cotton gin was created by and american inventor named Eli Whitney in 1793.

  • Telegraphy 1837

This was invented by Samuel Morse in 1837. The morse code was named after him. Telegraphy is the long distance transmission of written messages without physical transport or letters. Telegraphy includes fax, email, and other computer networks in general. The first telegraphs came in the form of optocal telegraphs. Including signals and beacons which have exsisted since ancient times. By 1935, message routing was the last great barrier to full contact.
