This is fort Sumter today. This picture was taken from an airplane on a bright sunny afternoon. It is still standing and many thousands of tourists visit this historical site. The fort was the place were the Civil War officially started; where the South fired upon the North. The first time americans fired upon other americans in U.S. history. Major Robert Anderson moved his troops from Fort Moultrie to Fort Sumter in December of 1860. General Beauregard and his unit of 500 men ordered Major Robert Anderson to leave the fort in peace, but Major Anderson answered with cannon fire. finally after four weeks of countless tries to get Anderson to leave they fired upon him on April 12, 1861 at 4:30 in the morning.
