This picture was taken after Abe Lincon singed the Emancipation Proclamation. Some Union soldiers did not like having black soldiers in their regiment, others liked it. Blacks still were not treated equal, but they were happy to be "free." Some say " the blacks fought harder than the white soldiers because they were tying to get back at the people who had held them as slaves and killed their loved ones." Hayden and Christian.
