For years, women were not allowed equal rights. One of these rights was the right to vote. This was called Women Suffrage.
Leading up from 1840 to 1920, women fought for this right. It was a hard struggle, but they finally achieved it.
Some women began to feel a strong resistance towards being constantly being overpowered by their husbands.
women took to the street to fight not only for their rights but for the future of their daughters as well and the many generations to come.
Some men and women opposed women suffrage. They hired people to draw cartoons that they believed would change other's minds.
Some of the most famous suffragettes were Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Above), and Susan B. Anthony (below).
Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were good friends until the end. Most of the speeches were written by Anthony, and read by Cady Stanton.
